Andrew’s mother, Anne Brewster Wells ( born 1938), is a bank executive. She was the vice president of the private division of the Chemical Bank Corporation.

His father, James William Shue (born 1936 ), was a lawyer and real estate developer. He was the president of the International Food and Beverage Corporation and was active in Republican politics, having once unsuccessfully run for the U.S. Congress in New Jersey.

Andrew’s mother was a descendant of Pilgrim leader William Brewster and his father was of German ancestry, from Pennsylvania.

James Shue and Anne Harms had four children; Elisabeth Shue, William Shue, Andrew Shue and John Shue.

Their son William Shue died on August 24, 1988 in Block Island, Rhode Island.
