Beloved ‘Peacemaker’ Bishop in Los Angeles Is Fatally Shot, Suspect Arrested: Reports

A cherished Catholic minister hailed as a “peacemaker” was lethally shot on Saturday and a suspect has been captured regarding his passing, the Los Angeles Province Sheriff’s Specialization declared Monday, different outlets report.
Helper Diocesan David O’Connell, 69, was tracked down shot to death in his home in Hacienda Levels on Saturday evening, and the sheriff’s specialty said his demise is being researched as a homicide, CNN reports. As per The New York Times, the sheriff’s specialization said more data would be given on the suspect at 3 p.m. nearby time Monday.
The diocesan news site Angelus News reports that O’Connell was born in Region Stopper, Ireland, and appointed in the Los Angeles Archdiocese in 1979.
“He was a peacemaker with a heart for poor people and the worker, and he had an energy for building a local area where the sacredness and poise of each and every human existence was regarded and secured,” Ecclesiastical overseer José H. Gomez of Los Angeles said in a proclamation.

“He was likewise an old buddy, and I will miss him significantly. I realize we as a whole will.
If it’s not too much trouble, go along with me in appealing to God for Minister Dave and for his family in Ireland. May Our Woman of Guadalupe enclose him by the mantle of her affection, and may the holy messengers lead him into heaven, and may he find happiness in the hereafter,” Gomez’s assertion added.
O’Connell’s demise was grieved Sunday night in a vigil in Hacienda Levels, KTLA reports.
