Emily Robison is an American songwriter, singer, multi-instrumentalist who has an estimated net worth of $50 million. Born Emily Burns Erwin on August 16, 1972 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, she grew up in a family that helped her became proficient on several instruments while in elementary school, especially her sister Martie.
Robison is famously known as the founding member of the female country band the Dixie Chicks, which also includes her sister, Martie Maguire, and friend, Natalie Maines. She specifically plays banjo, dobro, guitar, lap steel, bass, mandolin, accordion, and sitar. Prior to working with the group, she spent years attending bluegrass festivals and busking and later, she joined her sister guitarist Robin Lynn Macy, and upright bass player Laura Lynch to form a band, but eventually moved into a new direction. Maines replaced the latter two to work with the sisters. Their albums, Wide Open Spaces and Fly, were a massive commercial success after both achieved diamond record status. The group also celebrated five Grammy Awards for their album, Taking the Long Way.
The trio all had young children to take care and spend time with aside from other personal commitments. When Maine took a break from music, the sisters formed a side project called Court Yard Hounds and Robison was the lead vocalist.
Emily is married to country singer Charlie Robison since On May 1, 1999, but divorced after nine years of marriage. They have three children – Charles Augustus, and twins, Julianna Tex and Henry Benjamin. Currently, she is married to Martin Strayer and they have a daughter, Violet Isabel.
