In addition to being the chairman of the board, CEO, and founding member of the GEO Group, which administers prisons and jails in the United States, Dr. George C. Zoley (born February 7, 1950 in Florina, Greece) is also the creator of the GEO Group. Wackenhut Corrections Corporation, which Zoley founded in 1984 as a subsidiary of The Wackenhut Corporation, was the business that Zoley formed as The GEO Group in 1985. For Wackenhut Corporation, he held positions as manager, director, and vice president of government services before establishing the GEO Group. Zoley is a past chairman of the board of trustees of Florida Atlantic University and is now a member of the board of trustees (FAU). He has also served as the head of the Florida Atlantic University Presidential Search Committee and is a member of the FAU Foundation Board of Directors, among other positions. A bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in public administration from Florida Atlantic University, as well as a doctorate in public administration from Nova Southeastern University, are among the qualifications that George Zoley has.
