Gloria Loring is an American singer and actress, best known for five years playing Liz Chandler on ‘Days of Our Lives’. Gloria and her fellow singer-actor Carl Anderson also performed the duet “Friends and Lovers”, which earned the number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1986.

She was born Gloria Jean Goff. She was born and raised in New York City. Both her parents had a calling in music. Her mother (Ann) was a singer, while her father (Popularly known as “Buzzy”) was a professional trumpet player with the Tommy Dorsey Big Band.

Loring started her music career at an early age of 14, she sang with a folk group called ‘Those Four’. She then released her first album in 1968, titled Today on MGM Records. Loring later released several singles, including cover versions of Harry Nilsson’s “Everybody’s Talkin’” and Roger Whittaker’s “New World in the Morning”, were released on the Evolution label, though none charted. Loring continued to perform on a variety of television shows in the late 1960s and 1970s, from The Carol Burnett Show to the Academy Awards ceremony.

Loring signed to Atco Records and later released the single “Brooklyn,” produced by Mike Post, in 1977 under the alias Cody Jameson, and it became her first chart single, that climbing to No. 74 on the Billboard Hot 100 and also appearing on the Adult Contemporary and Country Charts.

In early 1977 the singer flew to Toronto to be the guest star on the popular weekly variety program ‘The Bobby Vinton Show’, which was viewed widely across the United States and Canada. The program was produced by Alan Thicke, her husband back then. She performed “Will You Love Me Tomorrow” and also a duet with Vinton on “Breaking Up Is Hard to Do”.

Loring and Alan composed the theme songs to “Diff’rent Strokes” and “The Facts of Life” in 1979 and 1980. She sang two versions of the ‘Facts of Life’ theme song: One used from seasons 2 to 6, while the other from seasons 7 to 9.

A year later, after her son Brennan was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in 1979, Loring joined Days of Our Lives and got the idea to create and self-publish the Days Of Our Lives Celebrity Cookbook to raise money for diabetes research. There were two volumes published: Volume One was published in 1981, while Volume Two was published in 1983. The books, together with her single ‘A Shot in the Dark’, garnered more than one million dollars which facilitated the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, abbreviated as JDRF.

Over the last 30 years, Gloria has served as a spokesperson for JDRF.

Loring released her first holiday album by the name ‘You Make It Christmas’ in 2003. Later on, in 2008, she released the album, ‘A Playlist’, which included a new recording of the song “Friends and Lovers” with Carl Anderson. It was recorded one year before he died. The singer’s book released late in 2012, ‘Coincidence Is God’s Way of Remaining Anonymous’, is a spiritual autobiography of how a series of coincidences transformed her life.
