TV host Greg Mathis was born to his parents, Alice Lee Mathis and Charles Mathis.
His father, Charles, hailed from Detroit native, while his mother, Alice Lee, was a nurse’s aide and housekeeper.
Mathis parents later divorced, and then he had to live with his mother alone.

Greg Mathis, also known as Judge Mathis, is a former Michigan Court judge, TV court show arbitrator, author, TV producer and presenter.
Born on April 5, 1960, in Michigan, United States, Mathis attended Eastern Michigan University and the University of Detroit.
Mathis is best known for hosting the syndicated reality courtroom show, Judge Mathis, since 1999.
The show has won the NAACP Image Award and Daytime Emmy awards.
Mathis is regarded as the longest serving African American court show judge, and “the second longest-serving TV arbitrator ever.”
In 2022, Mathis launched a reality TV show on E! and tagged it Mathis Family Matters.
Also in 2022, Mathis received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He also holds the Black History Achievement Award from Oakwood University.
Aside from his work in the media, Mathis is a motivational speaker, a philanthropist and author.
Some of his written works include Been there, Done that; and Inner City Miracle, a memoir.
