Herbert William Mullin April 18, 1947, was an American serial killer who killed 13 people in California in the early 1970s. He confessed to the killings, which he claimed prevented earthquakes.
Was Herbert Mullin married?
Mullin revealed his homosexuality to his partner in 1968, leading to the breakup. The following year, he consented to be admitted to the Mendocino State Hospital by his family, but he soon departed.
The ensuing years were spent by him wandering across California, working menial jobs, and briefly checking into various psychiatric hospitals. He had a brief career as a boxer but was removed from the ring by force after refusing to stop pounding his opponent.
He tried to join a priesthood, engaged in various alternative lifestyle practices like yoga, meditation, and macrobiotic diets, supported the legalization of LSD and marijuana, and used these narcotics in addition to amphetamine.
Then-Santa Cruz County District Attorney Peter Chang said Mullin knew many of his victims before he decided to kill them. Chang described Mullin as a “psychopathic killer,” according to the Valley Press newspaper.
