Josephine Roberto (born 25, 197December7), often known as Banig or Banig Roberto, is a Filipino-born worldwide recording singer, composer, actor, and music producer. Although she began singing at the age of three, her professional career began when she participated on Ang Bagong Kampeon, a nationally broadcast talent competition in the Philippines, when she was eight years old. She won seven weeks in a row and finished third in the grand finals.
Following her triumph on Ang Bagong Kampeon, she went on to star in a number of other television programmes before winning the International Star Search TV competition in 1989 and represented the Philippines as the Junior Category Champion. This led her to relocate to the United States, where she has continued to have a successful worldwide career. The Arsenio Hall Show, Into the Night with Rick Dees, The Maury Povich Show, AM Los Angeles, and Good Day L.A. were among the many US television performances that followed Star Search.
She has performed solo performances at the Wiltern Theater, Hollywood Palladium, Mark Ettess Arena Trump Taj Mahal, City Center NY, Cow Palace San Francisco, Roxy Theatre Los Angeles, Alex Theatre Glendale CA, Spreckles Theater San Diego, Copley Symphony Hall San Diego, and other notable locations. Banig’s debut worldwide album, “Can You Feel My Heart,” was released by Del-Fi Records when she was 16 years old. The singles “Everlasting,”
“This Time It’s For Real,” and “I Talk to Everyone” all got airplay and charted on radio stations across the United States. Banig and her younger sister, Jhoanna Roberto, founded Double Play Entertainment, a musical company, in 2001. Banig’s album “Silent Whispers” was published on this label, along with the songs “Boogie On the Dance Floor” and “Walk.” Both songs got widespread radio and club play, peaking at #1 on many radio stations throughout the United States.
While living in the United States, Josephine Roberto (a.k.a. Banig) continues to sing, compose, and produce music and is presently working on new music projects. Banig signed with Shakir Entertainment Management in New York City on July 8, 2014.
