Meet Rodolfo Chávez, Amalia Carrasco
Julio César Chávez was born on July 12, 1962 in Ciudad Obregón, Sonora, Mexico. His family was from Culiacán, Sinaloa, Mexico, but his father, Rodolfo Chavez, worked for the railroad company and was transferred to Obregón, where Julio was born.
He was born to Rodolfo Chavez and Amalia Carrasco.
In 1968, the family had to move again. This time to Mazatlán, Sinaloa, México, where they lived for a year. And then, once again, they had to move and returned to their city Culiacán.
For the first couple of months, the family and Julio had to live in an abandoned railroad car with his five sisters and four brothers, before their father could afford to rent a small house. Chávez came from a poor family and became a boxer for money, he stated: “I saw my mom working ironing and washing people’s clothes, and I promised her I would give her a house someday and she would never have that job again.”He began boxing as an amateur at the age of 16 and he then moved to Culiacán to pursue a professional career.
