His village was founded by Demons and the people living there worshipped them. And, He has got magic and supernatural power. Shoto revealed that he wanted to be a baker like his father in his childhood. But things changed and the peace of the village ended and with time he became a rouge demon slayer.

Shoto had few friends growing up and his best friend was Ether. Shoto taught magic and other techniques to Ether. 

Shoto and Ether were stabbed by a demon and left out to die. Shoto survived and pleaded for Ether’s life to god in a shrine. God healed Shoot but Ether died. He, later on, became a cursed knife that Shoto carried with him in his future quests. Due to this trauma, He became a demon slayer and started to slay them to avenge the death of his friend Ether.
