Robert Gottlieb’s wife: Who is Maria Tucci? – Robert Gottlieb, an acclaimed editor at Simon & Schuster, Alfred A. Knopf, and The New Yorker, is Maria Tucci’s second wife. Tucci and Gottlieb married in 1969, after the latter’s divorce from his first wife, Muriel Higgins.
Tucci was born on June 19, 1941, in New York City, USA, and is most known for her portrayal in The Rose Tattoo, for which she received a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actress in a Play in 1967.
Tucci was born to novelist Niccol Tucci (1908-1999) and Laura Tucci (1911-1989).
Her first roles were in Robert Frank’s Me and My Brother and Shadow Game, a CBS Playhouse production.
She played Lisa in Sidney Lumet’s 1983 film Daniel and in Gus Van Sant’s 1995 film To Die For, she portrayed Angela Maretto.
Tucci made her Broadway debut in 1963, in The Milk Train Doesn’t Stop Here Anymore, and currently has 14 Broadway credits.
She played Alice More in a production of A Man for All Seasons in 1986. She also played Ruth Steiner in Collected Tales, which made its New York debut in 1997 and was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
She featured in the Minetta Lane Theatre’s production of Love and Information in 2014.
She has also appeared in numerous productions at the Long Wharf Theatre and the Williamstown Theatre Festival.
On Wednesday, June 14, 2023, Tucci lost her spouse of over 5 decades, Robert Gottlieb, to the icy hands of death.
Tucci and Gottlieb had two children: Lizzie Gottlieb, a film director, and Nicholas (Nicky), who is the subject of one of his sister’s documentary films, Today’s Man.
