Slater Vance is famous as the celebrity kid of an Oscar-award and seventh-time Emmy nominated actress Angela Bassett. 

Slater was born in Chicago via Surrogacy. He first appeared with his parents in 2007 in The Oprah Winfrey Show. According to Angela, Slater is into rap and writing.

How did his parents turn their friendship into a successful marriage?

His mother Angela Bassett and father Courtney B. Vance, first met in the 1980s at the Yale School of Drama, but it was not love at first sight for both of them. 

At the time, Courtney was already in a relationship with his girlfriend, who was from the same Drama School. 

They met again after several years when Angela was working in a play with Courtney’s girlfriend. 

Later, Angela moved to Los Angeles, and shortly after, she landed a role in What’s Love Got To Do With It, a role that earned her an Oscar nomination while Courtney was busy in Broadways. 

They were destined to be together. According to them, they again met in 1994 and ended up dating for the first time, which was not impressive. 

On their second date, which was indeed a golf date, Courtney realized he felt for Angela. He didn’t go for a grand proposal. He asked her to answer yes or no. 

They spent their week together, and the spark between them grew stronger. They married on October 12, 1997, and have been together since then.

He has a twin sibling 

He has a twin sister Bronwyn Vance. His parents were unable to conceive for seven years, due to which they had made up their mind to adopt. But it was their family friend who recommended surrogacy. 

At the age of 48, Angela became the mother of Slater and Bronwyn. Slater and his twin sister Bronwyn were born five weeks before their due date. 

His father is an award-winning actor as well

Not only his mother but his father is also a recipient of several awards and accolades, including the Primetime Emmy Award for his lead role in the FX limited series The People v. o. J. Simpson: American Crime Story. 

Besides that, he is also the recipient of the Tony Award for his role in the play Nora Ephron’s Lucky Guy.

Slater and Bronwyn have not watched their mother’s most iconic role

Angela confessed that her kids Slater and Bronwyn had not watched her most iconic role that earned her an Oscar nomination. 

She wishes her kids to discover themselves and keeps telling them that they are unaware of what she got up her sleeve. 

Angela played the iconic role of Tina Turner in a 1993 film which was based on the life of American singer Tina Turner. 

The film was What’s Love Got To Do With It. She won a Golden Globe Award for the role.

Slater was taught to respect girls

Slater’s mother had a tough childhood where she was raised by a single mom. She even faced molestation from her mother’s boyfriend. 

While opening up about her parenting, she confessed to providing every little information to her kids from an early age, including teaching her son to respect girls. 

While young, when Slater used to wrestle with his sister and whenever she would say stop, Angela would teach him saying if girls tell you to stop, then you should stop or if any girl says no, she means no.

Born African-American, Slater and his sister had to face racism. During an interview, she revealed how Slater and Bronwyn have been dealing with racism since four. 

Because of the color issues, they had to deal with whether other kids would play with them or have issues.
