Eric Leroy Adams is the 110th mayor of New York City. He is an American politician and retired police officer.

Moreover, Adams worked for over 20 years as a police officer for the New York City Transit Police and later the New York City Police Department, retiring with the rank of captain.

From 2006 to 2013, he represented Brooklyn’s 20th Senate District in the New York State Senate. Adams was elected Borough President of Brooklyn in November 2013. In November 2017, he was re-elected, making him the first African American to occupy the position.

Adams won the general election by a landslide over Republican Curtis Sliwa. On January 1, 2022, Adams was sworn in as mayor shortly after midnight.

Adams became regarded as “a tough little boy” when he joined the 7-Crowns gang at the age of 14.

Adams grew up in a rat-infested tenement in Bushwick, Brooklyn, and his family was so impoverished that he would frequently bring a bag of clothes to school with him in fear of eviction.

His mother, on the other hand, was able to save enough money in 1968 to purchase a home and relocate the family to South Jamaica, Queens. He was the fourth of six children and worked as a squeegee boy as a child.

His son is a filmmaker and television actor who graduated from American University.
