Kathy was born on November 4, 1960, in an Irish-American family. Her parents, Mary Margaret Griffin and John Patrick Griffin, were first-generation Irish-Americans. She was born and raised in the Chicago suburb of Oak Park in Illinois.

Kathy used to shave her head in solidarity with her sister, who was diagnosed with cancer. And now, she is about to get surgery to remove half of her left lung. They found her cancer in the early stage, and therefore, she might not even have to undergo chemotherapy or radiation after the surgery.

Kathy hopes to be recover as early as possible and hopefully be up and running in less than a month. Kathy shared that she got lung cancer despite never have smoked. So, the cause of the death might be hereditary, but we cannot confirm it yet.
