David was born on April 29, 1983, in St Louis, Missouri. Lee won the 2001 Slam Dunk competition held by McDonald’s All American and was named a first-team high school All American by Parade magazine.

Lee got an athletic scholarship to the University of Florida, where he played for the Florida Gators Basketball team from 2001 to 2005.
