Nathan Gale was the perpetrator of the Columbus nightclub shooting, which claimed the life of Dimebag Darrell.

Gale joined the United States Marine Corps in February 2002, spurred by the September 11 attacks. He served with the 2nd Marine Division at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina until November 2003, just halfway through his four-year service.

Nathan informed his mother that he had been dismissed from the Marine owing to a paranoid schizophrenia diagnosis and that he had returned with medicine, but that he denied further treatment after coming home. Marine never confirmed the reason for his discharge.

He’d been pulled over several times for traffic violations and charged with criminal trespassing for skating and camping outside. Gale was living alone in a flat above an abandoned shop at the time of the incident.

Nathan Gale is dead now. He was shot dead by officer James Niggemeyer on December 8, 2004. 

The officer shot Gale three minutes after the shooting and was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Although Nathan claimed to have been taking medication for paranoid schizophrenia, the autopsy report revealed that there were no prescribed drugs in his system at the time of his death.
