Wilson Rawls is best known as a children’s author. He is an American author of children’s literature, best known for titles such as Where the Red Fern Grows (1961) and Summer of the Monkeys (1976). Among his many literary awards are the Sequoyah Children’s Book Award and the Golden Archer Award. He was born on September 24, 1913 in Scraper, OK. As a child, Rawls read Jack London’s work and was a great inspiration to him. He became a carpenter and traveled to South America, Canada and Alaska. He later worked for the Atomic Energy Authority.
