Ricardo Daniel Pepi is an American professional soccer player. He plays as a striker for Bundesliga club FC Augsburg and the United States National Team.

Pepi was eligible to play from both the United States and Mexico through his parents and attended training camps for both the United States under-17 and Mexico under-17 sides.

Ricardo started playing recreational soccer when he was four years old in the local EI Paso Leagues. He soon began playing competitive soccer organized by a club coached by his father.

The club soon became affiliated with Major League Soccer club FC Dallas, who scouted Pepi following the Copa Chivas tournament in 2016, offering him an opportunity to join the FC Dallas youth academy.

He soon was promoted to the under-17 side as a 15-year-old, scoring 19 goals in eight matches.

Everything started when a Twitter user @BryanED2000 commented on a tweet against Mexicans. This tweet received a like from Ricardo Pepi’s account. It seemed that he was quick to regret his action and unlike the comment but was not fast enough to avoid people’s blow up.

People immediately started to call Ricardo a racist and a person who does not respect his roots. The memes were pointing out his race in a racist manner.

@BryanED2000, who happens to be Mexican himself, deleted the comment and said it was a joke out of context. He even suggested that Pepi had liked the Tweet by accident.

As for this very reason, he has not come out and clarified what had happened.

Ricardo Pepi Parents Nationality And Family Background

Ricardo was born in EI Paso, Texas. He was raised in nearby San Elizario.

Pepi’s parents are Daniel Pepi and Annette Pepi. His father, Daniel was very supportive of him and his career. Ricardo was even coached by his father.

Pepi has Mexican ancestry as his family is from Mexico. He used to travel across the border to Cuidad Juarez to visit his family and grew up watching Mexican National Team and Liga MX.

He initially struggled to decide whether to represent the United States or Mexico as both countries were knee on signing him in the 2021 season. However, he choose the United States of America.

The soccer player has dual American-Mexican nationality.
